Tramping Safety Video Series
New Zealand Mountain Safety Council
Quite Nice Films was proud to lead the video production of 21 videos for the Tramping Safety Video Series in partnership with the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC). This groundbreaking series provides essential track-specific safety guidance for trampers exploring New Zealand’s backcountry.
What we did:
From concept to final delivery, we managed the entire video production process, ensuring each video was engaging, informative, and visually compelling. Our work included:
Pre-production planning – Collaborating with MSC and using their expert insights to develop a visual storytelling approach that effectively communicates essential safety information. This involved scripting, storyboarding, securing permits, and handling logistics.
Filming on-location – Capturing New Zealand’s stunning yet challenging landscapes using cinema cameras, DSLRs, GoPros, drones, and iPhones to achieve a dynamic and multi-perspective feel..
Editing & animation – Crafting high-quality motion graphics, 3D animations, and on-screen safety tips to enhance understanding. We utilised Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects for all video editing and compositing, along with Cinema 4D and Octane Render to create detailed 3D animated maps of each track.
Impact & Recognition:
The effectiveness of this series is well-documented in MSC’s report, Scaling Success – Measuring the Impact of Tramping Safety Videos. The study found that 76% of viewers adjusted their tramping plans after watching the videos, making informed decisions that significantly reduced risk.
With over 1.6 million views on YouTube and strong engagement across multiple platforms, these videos have become a vital tool for trampers across New Zealand.
This is an ongoing series, with recent expansions into Mountain Biking safety videos, featuring the Old Ghost Road and Paparoa Track.
